Building the Wheels

First we got the hub and the rim of the wheel. Next we started to put one group of spokes in-which were 148mm long. We fitted the spokes into the hub locking them in; then we applied some lubricant to the spoke (and the hole in which we were putting it through), locking them in with nipples on the other side of the holes. Putting the spokes in was a tricky job that required patience as it took a long time and we had to keep repeating the process time and time again. When we came near the end we had to bend some of the spokes so they could go through the holes.

After the spokes had been loosely fixed in place-as it was only a temporary fit. Soon we were ready to use an adapted screwdriver-hand crafted-to tighten up the spokes;when you screwed them up the screwdriver would stop screwing at one point because of a little bump at the tip. Then we tested the four wheels one by one ajusting the spokes if necessary to make the wheel straight.  When some time had passed the wheels were ready enough to put the tyres on.

We bought the tyres and inner tubes, but before putting them on we fitted some special tape around the rim-being careful it didn't overlap onto the sides this tape was to protect the tyre so it didn't rub on the sharp spoke holes. Next we put on the tyres, which was a tricky job. We fitted one side of the tyre in first, then using the tyre levers for the last little bit. Then we squished the inner tubes in and then, being careful not to pinch the inner tubes, we started to fit the other side of the tyre in. On the second side we couldn't use the tyre levers because of the risk of pinching the inner tubes and maybe puncturing them.

After this was done our wheels were nearly complete all we had to do was pump the tyres up to a temporay 4 and a half bar. Soon this was done and our wheels were complete.
